🏊‍♂️ Swimming My Talk and Talking My Swim 🏊‍♀️

SHARE

🌊✨This morning’s swim felt so good. After chatting with a friend last night — she’s training for the police fitness test (which requires swimming 50m in under one minute) — I decided to see how I’d go at it myself.

Normally, my swims are about distance and endurance. But today was all about speed.

I warmed up with 8 lengths (25m x 8 = 200m) and then went for the time trial. To my surprise, I swam 50m in 58 seconds. Then, on my next attempt, I managed 57 seconds. That gives me a solid baseline to work from.

From here, my next baseline goal is to time a 3km swim. From what I’ve heard about Jasi Masters and QE2 Masters, their sessions often cover 2–3km in about an hour. That’s where I’d love to get to — swimming with more ease and speed over longer distances.

While I was swimming today, I also noticed another swimmer using hand paddles. Her arms and upper body were super strong, and she barely kicked her legs while powering through the water. Naturally, I was curious — what advantages do paddles bring, and how might they help me in my training? Another question for the journey.

So now I have a couple of fresh goals:

1: Swim 50m in under 1 minute consistently.

2: Build speed and ease for a 3km swim.

And because I love a challenge, I’m now curious to try the police fitness test myself — not for the career, but for the sheer achievement of it. Who knows, maybe this will even help me rediscover running again one day!

As for my swim teacher application, I didn’t make it through to the next stage. And that’s okay. In fact, it’s opened up some even more exciting possibilities:

* Going private and offering one-on-one coaching.

* Approaching other swim schools with fresh energy.

* Supporting high-level athletes with swim technique to improve their times — whether for Ironman events, diving school fitness, or police swim tests.

The pool continues to teach me so much. Every length is a blend of meditation, reflection, and challenge.

And with each stroke, I feel I’m not only swimming my talk, but also talking my swim.

Exciting times ahead 🌊
