A couple of months ago Dave and I sat down and watched a podcast episode with Sean Johnson, Mele Hufanga and Gayle Broughton (I'll add the video link below). I was intrigued by these women League players who have signed with the Warriors Women's. I have great admiration for women League players.
After this video I recorded this Podcast episode Ep3: How Elite Athletes Manifest Success (The Truth About Mindset & Self-Belief). (Note: This podcast has now been rebranded to The Aley Young Show to incorporate all of my channeled insights, lessons and growth).
Watching this chat one line stayed with me: when Gail said, "we manifested this." I loved that she used that word, because it made me realize something important.
Words like manifestation don't just sit in one world - they sit in two. And most people only ever see one of them.
✨ The Spiritual Layer
When athletes say "we manifested this," there's often an energetic layer people immediately connect with: belief, intention, visualisation, alignment, and trusting the outcome before it arrives.
Yes this layer is real, but it's only half the picture. In high-performance environments - especially in systems like the New Zealand Warriors pathway and elite women's rugby league, there's another layer happening underneath: a very physical, very disciplined layer. So instead of choosing between the two, I started seeing it like this: there's the inner world, and then there's the outer repetition that makes the inner world believable.
With manifestation, the first layer is what people often call belief. It sounds like, I can see myself there already. I just knew it would happen. I felt it before I saw it.
Belief does matter. Not in a way that replaces work, but in a way that shapes your direction. Belief determines what you're willing to attempt, what environments you step into, and what standards you except for yourself. Without belief, most people don't even start. So yes, that layer is real. But there's another layer, too.
✨ The Repetition Layer
The second layer is what you actually see in athletes like Mele Hufanga. She spoke about turning up to Kiwi Ferns training consistently, even before she'd been selected. She just thought, I'm just going to risk it. There were no guarantees, no certainty, no overthinking whether it would work out - just repetition.
This is where the meaning of manifestation shifts. In performance environments, manifestation looks like showing up even when no one is watching. Staying in the room where opportunity might exist. Training like selection is already possible. It's continuing even when nothing has changed yet, and this is the layer most people underestimate, because repetition doesn't feel spiritual. But it builds the conditions where opportunity becomes visible.
✨ Where the Two Layers Meet
Neither layer works on its own. If it's only belief, there's no structure. If it's only repetition and action, there's no direction. But together, that's where things start to shift.
So when Gail says "we manifested this," I hear it as a belief that stayed alive long enough to be reinforced by action. I hear intention that was repeated until it became identity. That's the bridge between the two worlds.
✨ Culture and Buy-In
Another thing that stood out in this conversation was how often it returned to culture and buy-in. In elite environments, success isn't individual - it's collective reinforcement. Gail spoke about understanding teammates' strengths and playing into them. That's not just skill; that's shared awareness. And buy-in becomes the invisible structure holding everything together. When everyone commits to the same vision, standards rise, expectations align, and belief becomes shared. That's when a team starts to feel like something bigger than just the individuals performing. You can also see this in the men's Warriors - Dallin Zelezniak (one of my favorite League players) even spoke about this in another podcast interview (I'll add this interview below too) where he spoke about connection. It is the connection ("buy-in") that is definately helping strengthen the Warriors play this year. They all know they're each putting in the effort 😀
✨ Belief Gets You to the Door
What I keep coming back to in Mele's story is something simple. She put it different ways, but it all points to one thing: belief gets you to the door, repetition keeps you in the room, and consistency makes you recognizable within it. Just showing up isn't passive - it's the mechanism that turns intention into reality.
So when I hear athletes say "we manifested this," I hear a spiritual layer of belief and alignment, and a performance layer of repetition, discipline, and exposure. The intersection of the two is where outcomes start to shift. Through alignment, opportunities are attracted and because someone stayed consistent long enough, opportunity finally meets them.
Maybe manifestation isn't about things arriving out of nowhere. We've got to play our part too. Maybe it's about becoming the kind of person who is still there when the opportunity finally does meet them.
I'm really enjoying watching the Women's Warriors this year after watching this interview. There's something powerful about hearing other people's stories, and I have nothing but pure admiration for them on the field (as I'm writing this the Women's Warriors have just played the Knights winning 22 - 14 and both Gayle and Mele played).
If you like episodes like this one, let me know below or message me on my socials - I'd love to make more of them. I love sharing the spiritual insights I see, especially from top elite performers, and what we can learn from them to better our own lives too.
So today: do something that brings you joy. Put yourself in rooms with shared values that align with who you are.
Alright, beautiful - that's it for today, and as usual, here's a little something from my world to yours.
(This is where my children pipe in and finish every episode for me 😀 "Thank you for listening to my Mums podcast. I hope you learned something new. Remember to comment and leave a review. And remember - you are worthy, and you are enough."

An update about this blog

I'm Aley Young, the heart behind this blog.
It was a soft, grounded space where healing, personal growth, real food, and gentle truth meet.
A living journal - a place where I shared the moments, lessons, and inner shifts that have shaped my own journey, from nervous system healing and regulation to motherhood, identity, and becoming alongside the slower, earthier parts of life: the garden, the sourdough starter, the kitchen.
But now it is retired ...
Thank you for being here - some of you for years now.
After a lot of reflection, I've decided to step back from this chapter and follow a new calling: natural gardening. It's where my heart is right now, and I want to give it everything.
But nothing here is disappearing.
- The courses are still here - log in anytime with your existing account.
- The blog is still up to read, and the podcast is still here to listen to, whenever you like.
- Nothing is being taken away. I'm just not adding to it anymore.
If you've walked through this content with me, thank you. Truly. It mattered.
And if you're curious where I'm headed next - into the soil, into growing things, into a slower and simpler kind of healing - I'd love for you to come along.
