Listening to Pain: What My Groin Pain Taught Me About Feminine Energy, Emotion & Healing

Pain is one of the body’s most misunderstood messengers.

Most of us try to push through it, numb it, or ignore it. I’ve done the same, especially when I’m focused on training, creating, or being in constant action.

But recently, my body began speaking louder.

Groin pain. Pelvic discomfort. Emotional waves during my cycle. Deep sadness. Irritability. Anxiety.

All rising together like a tide I could no longer outrun.

At first, I treated it as purely physical. But the deeper I looked, the more I realised this wasn’t just about muscles or hormones…

It was about alignment - emotional, spiritual, and feminine alignment.

This blog shares what I discovered, how reconnecting with feminine softness changed everything, and the powerful shift that happened overnight after one meditation.

If you’ve been navigating pain, tension, or emotional heaviness… this might help you understand what your body is trying to tell you too.

Pain Is Not the Enemy - It’s a Messenger

The pain in my pelvis first began during pregnancy, when my pelvic bones shifted too close together. More recently, it returned as a left-sided groin ache that intensified around my cycle.

As I researched, reflected, and tuned into my body, I learned that groin and pelvic pain can be linked to:

  • stored emotional distress

  • old trauma

  • fear and self-worth wounds

  • hormone fluctuations (especially low progesterone)

  • not listening to the body’s cues

  • pushing instead of pausing

Low progesterone, known as the calming hormone, can increase irritability, anxiety, emotional sensitivity, and physical discomfort.

Combined with an overloaded nervous system, the emotional signals become even louder.

The Masculine–Feminine Imbalance

When the pain is at its worst, I’m usually operating heavily in masculine energy:

  • doing

  • pushing

  • creating

  • striving

  • action, action, action

And while these are beautiful energies, they become overwhelming when unbalanced.

My feminine energy - softness, intuition, rest, receiving, being, had taken a back seat.

My body was telling me:
“Slow down. Soften. Come home to yourself.”

The Emotional Layer of Pain

Any time the pain returned, I would feel an ache far deeper than the physical sensation.
Sadness about the running and sports I feel I’ve lost.

Frustration about my limitations.

The grief of not moving the way I used to.

Irritability without understanding why.

These emotions aren’t random.

They’re messages.

Your body always uses emotions to communicate:

  • sadness

  • irritability

  • overwhelm

  • anxiety

  • tenderness

They are invitations to pause, breathe, and ask:

What needs attention?
What needs softness?
What needs to be felt?

A Powerful Shift: The Divine Feminine Activation Meditation

Last night, after reading more about the emotional and spiritual roots of pain, I felt guided to try something gentle.

I chose a Divine Feminine Activation meditation by Meditate With Alice on YouTube - a practice filled with soft affirmations, imagery, and invitations into feminine flow and intuition.

As I listened, something softened inside me.

My breath deepened.
My nervous system eased.
My body finally felt heard.

And this morning…

I woke up pain-free.

It was such a powerful reminder:

When we slow down and listen, our body can finally relax.
When we soften, the body feels safe enough to release pain.

If I hadn’t listened to my body, I would still be pushing, forcing, and waking up in pain today.

An Emotional Release Tool That Helps

If you struggle with sadness, irritability, anxiety, or emotional heaviness during your cycle (or during pain flare-ups), the Emotional Flow Breath Technique in Chapter One of my book can help you move these emotions gently through the body.

My book, Everything Is Already Within You, is now available in digital format, and includes energy-based practices and meditations:

About this blog

I'm Aley Young, the heart behind this blog.

A soft, grounded space where healing, personal growth, real food, and gentle truth meet.

This is my living journal - a place where I share the moments, lessons, and inner shifts that have shaped my own journey, from nervous system healing and regulation to motherhood, identity, and becoming alongside the slower, earthier parts of life: the garden, the sourdough starter, the kitchen.

I'm a multi-passionate person, so you'll find writing here on whatever's actually inspiring me - that might be ancestral healing one week and something I learned from my swim training the next. I look at all of it through the same lens: as a healer, someone deeply connected, intuitive, and grounded.

From slow living and mindfulness, to rebuilding self-trust and reconnecting with your intuition, to companion planting and everyday baking - this is where I write the things I once needed to hear, and the things I've learned along the way.

Every piece here is an invitation to soften, breathe, and reconnect with who you're becoming.

This is a space for personal growth and real, grounded living, where you're supported in feeling seen and less alone as you rebuild yourself from the inside out.

Move slowly.

Begin wherever your heart lands.
